This vintage altar table is carved of purple sandlewood also known as "zitan", a prized hardwood from Southern Chinese forests that takes approximately 800 years to harvest. Some of the most esteemed examples of Chinese furniture are carved out of Zitan wood. This table—with impeccable proportions, scrolled feet, an apron carved with stylized dragons, and mortise and tenon joinery—was created by a master artisan in the manner of early imperial furniture.
