These unusual ladies' chairs exemplify the beauty of exaggerated proportions. Each chair features a small, round seat, charmingly counterbalanced by wide back panels. A black lacquer finish accentuates the interplay of lines drawn by the splayed legs and arched back. The scalloped back panels are delicately brushed with red and gold paintings of a serene mountainous landscape. Influenced by European designs, these early 20th century side chairs are uniquely sculptural and add a certain playfulness to their surroundings.

From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.
