Over a century ago, a gifted potter from northern China crafted this organic clay jar out of rich dark river clay mined from the river basins of Asia. The surface is stamped with a variety of images. A number of floral symbols give way to the striking lotus featured at the pot's most prominent band. The lotus as a symbol of purity is based on its relationship to river mud, deepening the importance of its inclusion on this river clay pot. Left entirely uncolored, the natural progression of the clay has created varying textures of clouded and smooth surfaces. Under natural light, this discoloration makes the pot seem frozen in time, as if the river clay is eternally drying in front of you.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
