Unglazed Stamped Clay Jar

Over a century ago, a gifted potter from northern China crafted this organic clay jar out of rich dark river clay mined from the river basins of Asia. The surface is stamped bands of symbols: hashmarks, flowers, and cross-checking. The effect is a field of eye-catching texture that calls to be touched. Left entirely uncolored, the progression of the clay has natural striations that bring great depth to its surface.
