Unglazed Stamped Clay Jar

Over a century ago, a gifted potter from northern China crafted this organic clay jar out of rich dark river clay mined from the river basins of Asia. The surface is stamped with a series of simple floral patterns. The remaining clay is left untouched, its natural progression color creating varied textures of clouded and smooth surfaces. Under natural light, this discoloration makes the pot seem frozen in time, as if the river clay is eternally drying in front of you. A robust lip adds a touch of sculptural framing to this spirited object.
