This provincial 19th century table was made by hand with lyrical lines and classical proportions and is easily identified by its arched and cusped apron. Originally it would have been used in a traditional Shanxi home as an incense stand, for serving wine or for displaying potted landscapes or other collectibles. It has developed a proud presence that is only achieved through life's natural progression. Use marks earned over the last 150 years bring depth and character to the top. The double drawers were opened many times to retrieve curios, calligraphy pens, rice paper or incense.
