With clean lines and earnest features, it’s easy to imagine this simple wood chest taking up residence in a rustic home in the mountainous region of Hebei province where it was made more than one hundred years ago. The structural simplicity of the cabinet, likely used to store clothing and textiles, earns its charm through delicately painted floral motifs, loosely brushed lacquer, and handcrafted brass hardware. We love the humble traces of the artist's hand, especially visible in the brushstrokes of lacquer and the freehand quality of the painted flourishes.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
