This Persian carpet was woven over a century ago in Samarghand: one of the oldest cities in Central Asia and, for many centuries, a prosperous stop along the Silk Road. Persian rugs are world-renowned because of their fine wool, masterful combinations of colors, and distinctive patterns. This example has unusual geometric and floral motifs set against a rich rust-colored field.
