Since closets were not a part of traditional Chinese homes, cabinets were essential for storage. Featuring perfectly proportioned, carved panel doors, hand-forged brass hardware and intricate wood-on-wood joinery, this pair of elegant compound cabinets would store clothing in the very finest of Chinese homes. Divided into two compartments, the stop shelf was used for hats or out-of-season clothing and everyday garments were kept in the bottom section. With its clean lines and timeless contours, this cabinet finds storage opportunities beyond the bedroom, stowing books, linens and even toys.
