This is a spirited example of a 19th century Ming form flanked-top altar table from Shanxi Province. Tables like this were traditionally placed against a wall to display flowers and valuable antiques or floated in a room for incense and other offerings. Auspicious lingzhi symbols representing longevity are carved thoughtfully within each of the open side panels. Dramatic beaded ruyi carvings symbolizing good fortune decorate the top of each leg.
