Used as a storage chest for clothes and personal belongings, this early 20th-century painted coffer likely doubled as an altar in a provincial family home. The colorful panels are painted with scenes of the traditional offerings that once sat upon the altar, including pomegranates, censers, incense, and flowers. Framed by a brilliant red finish and adorned with brass hardware, the hand-painted cabinet provides rustic texture and color to the home.
