This 19th century chest tapers gently from bottom to top, a refined detail for something intended exclusively for utility. Originally, this cabinet would have been used in a Northern Chinese home to store everything from clothing to incense. The doors pivot easily on external carved wooden hinges. The brass hardware is thoughtfully scaled and positioned, adding to the overall well balanced proportions. The surfaces have developed wonderful character over the past one hundred years of use.
