Set alongside the four treasures of the study - the calligraphy brush, ink, paper, and inkstone - the scroll pot was a fixture of every traditional scholar’s studio. Drawing on China's long-standing blue-and-white porcelain tradition, this scroll pot sets deep cobalt blue underglaze decoration against a smooth white backdrop. Repeated on all sides of the large vessel, the hand-painted design depicts tall lotus plants, dotted with blossoms, leaves and seed pods. Emerging from the mud of riverbanks yet pristine and beautiful, the lotus plant is a symbol of purity and perfection and an emblem of summer. The elegant and streamlined form of the glazed pot is defined by its straight walls that extend to a thin, articulated lip.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
