In traditional Ashanti culture, stools indicated power, status, and lines of succession. The flat base, curved seat, and ridged supports of this hand-carved stool reference the Ashanti King Stool. The central symbol is a stylized Nnonnowa, or "Double Drum," which symbolizes valor and strength. The double drum motif in combination with the King Stool form mark this piece as a leader's stool. The defined geometries and organic curves afford the stool a wonderfully sculptural presence. Many art historians point to the Ashanti's mixture of shape, negative space, and rich symbolism as an inspiration for the abstract expressionist movements in the West.

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
