Steeped in the cultural legacy of the Silk Road, this early 20th-century rug was made in Khotan, an age-old city in east Turkestan at the crossroads of eastern and western stylistic influences. The geometry of the carpet’s borders provides a frame to the rich abundance pictured, including flowering trees and tables laden with the bounty of this rich cultural region, including an iconic, seed-filled pomegranate. Woven of silk and wool yarns, the rug exhibits the rich organic colors of a traditional palette to warm up both modern contemporary and traditional interiors.
