Centuries ago this exquisite coffer table would have served as the family’s altar, where they paid respects to revered ancestors. It would also serve as storage, the three drawers and two bi-folding doors concealing precious silks. It was made in Shanxi Province and is emblematic of the highest-quality Qing Dynasty furniture: the polished walnut, flanged top, and original brass hardware.
