Food was scarce in the Tibetan highlands and had to be carefully rationed, so nothing wasted. This rustic yet well designed container was used over a century ago to transport and store a nutritious butter made from yak’s milk. It is carved out of wood and wrapped with bamboo slit and formed into a rope—the barrel and lid are tightly joined to create a seal.
