Puddingstone on Stand

Puddingstone is named for its unique composite nature, suspending numerous multicolored pebbles that resemble raisins in a pudding. Historically, it has been favored by artists and calligraphers as an ideal surface on which to place scrolls for painting. This stunning example was formed in China’s Shandong Province many thousands of years ago and has been shaped by hand into a smooth oval to reveal its distinctive markings. This stone is mounted on a custom steel mount, for display, like the stones ancient Chinese scholars kept in their studios as sources of inspiration.
