Sculpted by a 19th century carpenter to resemble bamboo, this fruitwood tea table expresses the virtuous characteristics of bamboo—integrity, strength, and perseverance. First popularized in the 17th century, this style emulates bamboo furniture with round legs and moldings and carved reticulation. Providing a contrasting texture, the recently added marble top is patterned with expressive veining, recalling the tradition of using irregular stone forms to suggest landscapes of the natural world. The square table is perfect today as a pedestal or display stand.
