Made of warm toned walnut, this 19th-century low table streamlines the meandering vine motif seen in traditional Chinese scrollwork in a dramatically curved apron and legs. Its low profile calls attention to the floating panel top. Appearing in many examples of Chinese furniture, the top is composed of separate panels that are intended to expand and contract as weather and climate dictate, keeping the surface from splitting and preserving the integrity of the table for generations of use.
