This 19th century coffer beautifully represents household storage cabinets of that time made in Tianjin, a port city in Northern China. The waist and apron are carved from a single piece of wood, its hoof feet are carved with scrolls and it maintains its impressive brass hardware made by hand. The original lacquer finish has developed wonderful character over time.
