This petite elmwood cabinet was constructed in the early 20th century by an artisan in China's Shanxi province. Called “noodle” for the rounded wood molding that outlines its doors and frame, the cabinet has an austere beauty, with a clean shape to showcase the warm color and textured grain of northern Chinese elmwood. A brass latch with dagger post and teardrop pulls provides subtle ornamentation and contrasts the fine lacquer finish. Simple and strikingly modern, the small cabinet would easily blend into traditional and contemporary rooms as linen, towel, or office storage.
