Cloaked in a smoky patina earned over the past century, this 19th-century lacquer coffer is painted with delicate flowers, artfully arranged in vases or loosely strewn about. A keen area of interest for the Chinese scholar, flowers were valued for their symbolic meanings, pleasing forms, and the aesthetics of their display. Skilled in traditional Chinese furniture-making techniques, our carpenters repurposed the original painted panels into functional front-facing doors.
