This reverse glass mirror painting depicts the Yangtze River Bridge, the first heavy bridge designed and built solely by the Chinese and a great source of pride when it was completed in 1968. The traditional art of painting behind glass involves working in reversed sequence; first the details, then the main image, and lastly, the background. The artist has no opportunity to make corrections, which makes the technique particularly challenging. The result has survived turmoil and travel in its original frame.
