"Competing Views" Kite by Michael Thompson

"Competing Views" is a unique kite by Chicago-based artist Michael Thompson. It exaggerates Mandarin characters into purely graphic elements. To create his kites, Thompson builds split bamboo frames with bamboo collected from Southern China. Over the bamboo, he stretches muslin, then collages and paints. The kites incorporate Thompson's ephemera from his travels to Asia.
