Cao Qi, a noted 18th century Chinese painter frequently painted traditional florals. This unusual ink painting of an almost mythical cat poised on a mountain by Cao Qi was likely painted in honor of a birthday. We know this because the Mandarin word for cat is the homonym for the word symbolizing a wish for longevity. Each of the four seasons are represented in the finely rendered flowers. The blossoming narcissus are associated with a promise for Spring, good luck and growth. The scroll is dated 1746. The characters in the upper right are a poem alluding to nature, hope and a long life. There are two artists seals.

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
