"Wake" by Ren Hui

Entitled "Wake," this patterned composition by Ren Hui was created by carving small notches into a wood board. The artist uses a pure and deliberate approach by using simple flourishes of marks, points, and dots. Each white mark is final and sits in contrast to the painted black background. When considered from a distance, the composition leaves the feeling of a wake created by a boat as it moves through water.
