"Plants" by Ren Hui

Hovering between abstract and representation, Ren Hui’s “Plants” is the result of the artist’s painstaking method of layering paint and using pointillist brushwork. Like a scaled-up, digitized photograph, the painting provides the viewer with just enough visual information to identify a leafy landscape yet dissolves upon closer look into a profusion of color and contrast. Trained as a poet, Ren Hui turned to visual art in 1989. His paintings have been exhibited worldwide and his work is included in international collections. He maintains a studio in Beijing and Ottawa, Canada.
