Gama was born in Mongolia in 1977 and currently lives and works in Berlin. He grew up in the nomadic tradition in which shamanism still plays an important role. In his paintings, Gama seeks analogies between his childhood memories of Inner Mongolia and the world of fantasy so richly explored in the country where he has chosen to live. Gama’s "Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles" series presents a striking example of the dichotomy he creates between his memories of the vast expanse of the Mongolian landscape, fused with the fantastical, abstract dreams of the artist as a young boy. There is always a stark contrast between the sky and the land, one of which is conveyed as a passage of abstract painting, echoing the artist Gerhard Richter, while the other is a naturalistic representation of familiar terrain.

Oil and acrylic on canvas. Framed.
