Bambara Ntomo Initiation Mask

Many tribes across Mali focused their mask-making on bold, heightened forms. The attention to shape seen in the facial features here is a perfect example. Finely detailed geometry gives this mask a sense of balance and proportion that is often eschewed for more expressionistic forms.
