With a simple silhouette and rich surface texture, this early 20th century weathervane is a charming example of American folk art. Adding a decorative touch to the topmost point of a building, weathervanes were an opportunity to tell a story and reassert a community's values. A combination of cast metal and cut sheet metal, this rustic weathervane is in the form of a simple feathered arrow bearing an encircled star, possibly a version of the Texas lone star, a symbol of the state's independence from Mexico.
