Provincial Storage Vessel

In spite of terra cotta's naturally earthy and solid presence, this tribal storage vessel has a fantastic sense of movement. The hand incised scarifications swirl through the solid ceramic, pulling the eye from the base of the vessel in a smooth sweep. The organic imperfections and asymmetries in the lip contribute to this same sense of dynamism. Taken together, it is easy to see the potter's hands at work on this provincial pot.
