The Lobi peoples of Ghana and Burkina Faso have a deep focus on agriculture, leaving less of their time for artistic endeavors. This difference in focus makes a decorated vessel such as this a particularly rare find. The geometric engravings were scarified to give the drinker a better grip, while also adding subtly rich texture. That texture combines with the upturned lip and robust form to create a piece of provincial sculpture.
