Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy & Compassion) is one of the most popular figures in Buddhism. She’s often called "Kannon" in Japan, where this finely carved early 20th century figure originates from. The artisan paid great attention to detail and craftsmanship: each petal of the lotus blossom throne, the delicately pierced flamed-shaped nimbus, and the tiered pagoda are all intricately rendered.
