Kirdi Bird Crest Currency

For hundreds of years before colonization, African tribes elevated everyday objects to create multi-use currency. The exotic bird's head design of this iron staff currency calls to mind flocks common to the northwestern reaches of Cameroon. Valued for its artistry and material, the staff lives on as a rough-hewn sculptural object. We feature it in our gallery as an eye-catching wall-mounted sculpture.
