Gilt Sakyamuni Buddha with Stele

Intricately carved from wood, this exquisite Buddha was finished with gold leaf and lacquer. Adorned with guardian lion dogs playing with embroidered balls, an ornate, architectural base supports the lotus blossom on which the Buddha rests. Backed by a magnificent curved slab, or stele, the Buddha sits in meditation, its upraised hand configured in the shuni mudra, connoting awareness, discernment, and focus.
