Lattice Panel with Removable Center

An artisan from China’s Shanxi Province carved this wood panel out of cypress over a century ago. The detail in the latticework is impressive, and although the wood looks fragile it has held up over time and aged beautifully. This central panel could be removed to create a vista into the room beyond, or to serve as an elaborate frame for another work of art.
