Peking Glass Cup on Stand

This 18th-century Peking glass cup, carved with a delicate floral motif, was cast in a popular color known as “chicken fat yellow." Peking glass was an art form that became popular after 1696, when the Kangxi Emperor had a glass workshop built on the grounds of the imperial palace. To create this exquisite glassware, glass makers would expertly sculpt away at layered dipped glass—in this case, all of one color.
