The basic form of this three-tiered box with handle has remained unchanged for a thousand years. Used like the modern lunchbox, each tier of this portable stacking box would have been filled with food and carried around by the handle. Unlike elaborate designs used for ceremonial outings, this early 20th century example made from woven reed and lacquered bamboo would have been used for travel or daily use. With a richly aged surface, this carrying box is wonderful as a storied decorative object or jewelry box.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
