With a beautifully worn, glossy finish, this petite orangeware bowl is a wonderful example of Maya pottery. The delicate bowl is etched with a geometric patterns and coated in a layer of clay slip for a light orange finish. Exposure to combusted materials during firing has resulted in subtle red-orange clouding on the surface, and centuries of use have speckled the vessel with imperfections. With balanced proportions and thin walls, this bowl is an exquisite display of Pre-Columbian artistry.
