Garden seats were once fixtures in Qing Dynasty gardens; the perfect place to rest while meandering along a path. This drum form seat was glazed by hand in China’s Jiangxi Province. The raised and pierced lotus motif is a traditional symbol of purity because lotus blossoms rise out of murky waters to bloom. This concept is underscored by the seat's mottled white glaze. Traditionally, lotus are also often depicted as seats for Buddha. We see this indoors and out, as flexible seats and side tables.
