This drum form pedestal was carved from a single block of white marble by Qing-dynasty artisans in the mid-19th century. Ringing both its top and bottom, an etched pattern of nail heads imitates those used to stretch a skin on an actual drum. At the pedestal's center is a flowering chrysanthemum blossom, set in low relief within a simple medallion form. Given their ability to bloom well into cold temperatures, chrysanthemums are symbols of longevity and represent the virtue of endurance in the face of difficult times. This hand-carved display stand is the perfect way to elevate a plant or precious item, indoors or out.
