Reflective Floral Lattice Panel

An artisan from China’s Shanxi Province created this sophisticated lattice panel, originally a window, over 150 years ago. Creating this floral lattice pattern was a complicated geometric puzzle. Very different from making fretwork by carving or perforating a solid panel—short pieces of carved wood were mortise and tenon joined together with long pieces of carved wood to make this tight sophisticated pattern. We backed it in mirror to give additional reflective dimension.
