With no stretchers or spandrels, this elegant early 20th-century altar table resembles one continuous ribbon. Carefully assembled with mortise-and-tenon joinery, the table's plank top surface ends in two scrolled edges, evoking the image of an unfurled calligraphy scroll. The narrow table was likely once used as a family’s altar, upon which they placed incense, fruit, and other offerings to pay respects to their ancestors. Finished to accentuate the wood's expressive grain patterns, this scrolled console table is a beautiful addition to the home.
