Rootwood furniture carried enough prestige and symbolic meaning that Chinese emperor Minghuang (c. 970) was painted for his portrait while sitting in a root chair. Naturally knotted and untamed, rootwood furniture reflected a cultivated taste for nature's peculiar effects and humble associations. This pair of highly collectible gnarled root chairs is joined together with wooden pegs, like a complex puzzle. Their surfaces give them a character only the passage of time can achieve.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
