This striking pair of smaller-scaled cabinets was made in Shanxi province around 1900. Called “noodle” for the rounded wood molding that outlines its doors and frame, the cabinets have an austere beauty, with a clean shape to showcase the grain and beautiful brown color of Chinese elmwood. Latches with dagger posts provide subtle ornamentation and the luster of brass. Simple and strikingly modern, the pair would easily blend into traditional and contemporary rooms for linen, towel or office storage.
