Ming dynasty textiles are extremely rare because the delicate silks and brocades wear away with time. This beautiful gold and black textile has survived the past four hundred years, and even after all this time the yellow thread is still arrestingly vibrant. Dragons were generally reserved for royal robes—this sample probably comes from the robe of a wealthy aristocrat—and the repeating cloud patterns represent never-ending fortune and luck.
