Luohan were popular in China for many centuries because their elegant form balanced beautifully with the sturdy, lightweight design. The tables were easy to move from room to room but were usually placed in a scholar’s study or bedroom. The table was made in China’s Shandong Province over 150 years ago but the woven cane top, Elmwood frame and curved legs are in remarkable condition. The decorative feet are carved to look like Ruyi (auspicious mushroom).
