Meiping vases were traditionally used to hold the branches of plum trees, celebrated in China as symbols of strength. Glazed in a rich jade color, the vase was made in Southern China using ancient techniques rooted in the Song dynasty (960-1279), when the art of monochrome porcelains was developed.
