Delicately painted with an elaborate trailing vine motif, this shallow blue-and-white dish is an early 20th-century bulb pot, used for forcing bulbs for indoor floral arrangements. Distinguished from bonsai pots by the lack of drainage holes, bulb pots such as this allowed florists to force bulbs into blossom in time with special occasions. Narcissus was an especially popular flower, and was cultivated to bloom exactly at the new year as a sign of good fortune. Formed in the shape of a ruyi sceptre, a symbol of longevity, and set upon a hardwood stand, this bulb bowl is wonderful as a decorative vide-poche or a shallow planter for succulents.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
